Facilities
The Louisiana School for the Deaf occupies 116 acres of land on Brightside Lane just south of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. The school is surrounded by property either owned by or in some way related to LSU: pasture land operated by the Agricultural College, the LSU Golf Course and housing developments which primarily serve LSU students. From the north side of our campus, one can clearly see "Death Valley" (no, not California, but Tiger Stadium!). To the northwest, one can see the Mississippi River bridge; it's a quick ride from LSD up the River Road to downtown Baton Rouge.
There are 22 major buildings on the LSD campus, including schools, dormitories, Senior apartments, a large Physical Education Complex, football stadium and auditorium.
Here are some of the highlights of our wonderful facilities:
- Our Physical Education Complex (PEC) features two gymnasiums, an Olympic-sized swimming pool with handicap access, bowling alley, weight room, and racquetball courts.
- Our Student Center is a place where students enjoy after-school activities, movie nights, school dances and a computer lab.
- Our Auditorium seats nearly 800 people and is equipped with huge video screens that capture whatever is happening onstage and make it large enough for the entire audience to clearly see what is signed or presented.
